Paste Spam Interface.

Back home

The Paste Spam Interface is available from Check Spam using the Paste Spam button and allows the user to paste in any spam with full headers. When the Parse button is clicked, SpamX will parse the spam headers, determine the reporting addresses for the source of the spam and allow the spam to be saved in the default spams storage folder as defined in Config. Once saved, the spam will be added to the spams list in Check Spam and is ready to be reported in the normal manner.

When parsing the spam, the Paste Spam Interface does NOT perform body parsing - this is left for Check Spam. In addition, with the exception of using the Friends File, the Paste Spam Interface intentionally overrides all normal checks for spam vs. normal mail and will treat ANY mail pasted into it as spam, regardless. A special flag is also set on the saved spam that instructs Check Spam to treat it in the same manner.

As a result, it is extremely important to insure the mail is REALLY spam before using Paste Spam. If people start reporting anything and everything they don't happen to like as spam it will have a serious adverse effect on the effectiveness of spam reporting. The LAST thing we want is for the individuals responsible for pursuing and eliminating spammers to stop taking spam reports seriously.

The Buttons:
+New Clears the window for pasting a new spam
Open Allows the user to open any text file containing an email with full headers
Parse Parses the current contents of the Paste Spam window [see above]
Close Closes the Paste Spam Interface

After a spam is parsed, the last IP address checked and the reporting addresses are displayed in the Paste Spam Interface as shown below.
